About ESCRS
Welcome To Emirates
Society of Colon and
Rectal Surgery.
Over the past few years, cancer has become the second leading cause of death in the UAE after cardiac diseases. Of these, colorectal cancer is the second most common neoplasia in the country affecting people at an average age of 51 years. But despite that, most people are still unaware of the fact that colon and rectal diseases, including cancer, are very common among the general population.
Colon and rectal diseases comprehend a broad range of conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula, abscess, colitis, polyps and colorectal cancer. As some of these conditions are quite serious and possibly life threatening, anyone exhibiting symptoms of a potential colon or rectal disease must be provided with immediate medical attention. This is where we come in.
The Emirates Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ESCRS), under the leadership of Emirates Medical Association (EMA), is a leading society for specialized colorectal surgeons, professionals, nurses, technicians who are associated with this field. At ESCRS, we aim to educate and exchange experience for best practices and quality patient care, locally and internationally. With ongoing research and knowledge transfer about these conditions, we have significantly improved the early screening, treatment and survival rates of many patients.
- ESCRS aims to reduce the incidence and prevalence of colorectal cancer through early detection of pre-malignant lesions in the colon and implement updated programs for its management
- Oversee best quality management of colorectal diseases and promote education, innovation and research
- Develop and introduce new techniques in the diagnosis and management of colorectal diseases
- Promote continued medical education for surgeons and trainees in managing colorectal cancer and other diseases
- Provide updated guidelines for the treatment of colorectal diseases
ESCRS envision to be the leading society in education and research of colorectal cancer and disorders, by dedicating ourselves to improve prevention and patient care methods in the field. We intend to be internationally recognized as leaders in the treatment and management of colorectal diseases.
